COLORFUL: A Conversation with Eto Mori and Julie Lythcott-Haims

In collaboration with Counterpoint Press, The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles invites you to listen to internationally-acclaimed author Eto Mori discussing her bestselling book, Colorful, which is now available in English! Joined by New York Times bestselling author Julie Lythcott-Haims, the authors discuss not just their crafts and writing practices, but also the tragedy of depression and suicide amongst youths.

The book Colorful provides comfort and perspectives of both parents and youths. After a year of quarantine and crises all over the world, such conversations are needed now more than ever.

Translation services are provided by award-winning Colorful translator, Jocelyne Allen.

About speakers

Eto Mori has been a leading author in Japan for over thirty years. She has won numerous major awards in Japan including the Naoki Prize, one of Japan’s most prestigious awards for popular fiction. Colorful is her first novel to be translated into English.

Jocelyne Allen has translated hundreds of short stories, novels, and manga, including the Eisner Award–winning titles Frankenstein by Junji Ito and Onward Toward Our Noble Deaths by Shigeru Mizuki.

Julie Lythcott-Haims is the New York Times bestselling author of the anti-helicopter parenting manifesto How to Raise an Adult which gave rise to a TED Talk that has more than 5 million views. Her second book is the critically-acclaimed and award-winning prose poetry memoir Real American, which illustrates her experience as a Black and biracial person in white spaces. A third book, Your Turn: How to Be an Adult is an inspirational work aiming to help humans lead a more authentic adulthood.
