Join us for Writer/Director Anthony Lucero’s award-winning directorial debut East Side Sushi, presented as part of the world tour of the 2016-2017 American Film Showcase. The film—the story of Juana, a Mexican immigrant who strives to become a sushi chef—tackles both race and gender roles (and not just sushi rolls). A panel discussion after the screening features director Lucero and guests, including renowned master sushi chefs Andy Matsuda (founder of The Sushi Chef Institute in Los Angeles) and Rogelio Cervantes (head sushi chef and manager of Amagi). Sponsored by the SMC Global Council. Hosted by the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. Direction and parking info>
