JFLA Deadlines
Grant Program for Japanese-Language Courses
This grant is designed to support Japanese-language programs in the U.S. that are facing severe financial difficulties in initiating/expanding/maintaining(surviving) their program due to budget cuts. The Japan Foundation provides financial support to educational institutions or school districts to supplement the instructor's salary for up to two years.
The grant is given on the premise that the Japanese-language program and the instructor's position at the applying institution will become self-sustaining even after the completion of the grant support from the Japan Foundation. It is recommended that the applying educational institution submit a commitment letter(supporting letter) from the person who is authorized to make a decision on whether to continue the Japanese-language program at the institute/school district (Examples: Dean, Dept. Chair, District Superintendent, Head of the Board of Education, Principal, etc.) at the time of application.
Japanese-Language Teaching Materials Purchase Grant
This program is intended to assist educational institutions in the U.S. to purchase teaching materials (textbooks, audio-visual materials, dictionaries, teachers' reference books, etc.) for their Japanese-language courses by providing financial support not exceeding $1,000.
First, the applying institution (hereafter "applicant") should submit an Application Form and a Wish List which includes titles, unit price, quantities, and estimated total cost to acquire the materials on their own (including tax, shipping/handling charges). Please do not purchase anything at the time of application, and wait until the Japan Foundation (JF) provides the grant result before actually purchasing materials.
The grant payment (a reimbursement check) will not be provided until the grant recipient submits the required documents such as proof of purchase (receipts, invoices, etc.), final report, and a sample lesson plan which has been developed using the newly acquired teaching materials. Please also note that the reimbursement check will be made payable to the applying institution, not to an individual.
Grant Program for Contests Designed for Japanese-language Learners
Projects to be held between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013
This program provides educational institutions/organizations in the U.S. with financial support (up to $600) for their Japanese-language education related activities such as speech contests, quiz contests, and presentations, etc. that are intended to motivate Japanese-language learners and promote Japanese-language education in the region.
